There are daily reports coming from there that how 14 to 16 year old girls are forcibly converted and forced to marry some middle aged Muslim youth.

How many Hindus have been converted since independence?

According to this report, many Hindus in Pakistan have accepted Islam since independence. Some did this under social pressure, while some people were forced to do so forcibly. At the time of independence i.e. in 1947, the total population of Hindus in Pakistan was 20.05%… which reached 1.6% by 1988. These figures are from the 1998 census of Pakistan.

On the other hand, according to the census that took place in 2017, the population of Hindus in Pakistan was about 4.5 million. Means 2.14 percent of the total population of Pakistan. Whereas, the population of Muslims in Pakistan is 96.47 percent. If we compare the population of Hindus with the time of independence, then it is very less. Experts believe that conversion is a major reason behind the decrease in their population.

Multiple conversions happened at different times?

The talk of conversion of Hindus is very common in Pakistan. Sometimes it doesn’t even come in the eyes of the media. However, there are some such stories which came in the eyes of the media and it was discussed all over the world. For example, in the year 2020, an activist from Pakistan had claimed that 171 people were converted to Islam in a single day in the Sindh province there. Hindu women, girls and men were included in this. Activist Rahat Austin said that fundamentalist Noor Ahmed Tashar was behind this big conversion.

At the same time, a report came in May 2023, according to which, 50 people in Pakistan accepted Islam leaving Hinduism together. A total of 10 families were involved in this. On the other hand, if we talk about women, there were 23 women in it, including a one-year-old girl. According to the report of The Print, this conversion was done by Mohammad Shamroz Khan.

What does the Human Rights Commission report say?

According to a report of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, about 1000 girls are forcibly converted every year in Pakistan. Most of these girls are in the age group of 14 to 20 years. Many reports claim that first these girls are abducted and then they are converted to Islam by threats and intimidation and then they are married off to a Muslim youth.
