Union Minister Irani completed the process of opening an account in the post office by standing in line. Her ‘Mahila Samman Savings Certificate’ (MSSC) account was opened at the post office counter itself and the computer generated passbook was given to her. During this, he also interacted with some account holders of MSSC and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) and post office employees.
What is MSSC Scheme?
The Government of India has launched the ‘Mahila Bachat Samman Praman Patra’ (MSS) scheme to provide better interest to women and girls as compared to normal savings schemes. In this scheme, 7.5 percent interest will be given annually. Apart from this, money will have to be deposited in MSSC for two years. After two years, the entire amount along with interest and principal will be returned.
