New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 2-day long Global Conference on Millets at the Subramaniam Hall of the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi on Saturday. Along with this, he will also release a postage stamp and a coin on the occasion of the International Year of Millets being celebrated this year. A video on millets will also be released during the programme. The government has named coarse grains as ‘Shri Anna’. The program will also be attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and his counterparts from 6 countries.
International Year of Millets declared 2023
Explain that based on India’s proposal, the year 2023 has been declared by the UNGA as the International Year of Millets (IYM). Further, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of making the celebration of IYM 2023 a ‘Jan Andolan’ and establishing India as a ‘Global Hub for Shree Anna’, all Ministries, Departments of the Central Government, States, Union Territories, Farmers, start-ups, exporters, retail businesses and other stakeholders are being engaged to create awareness and promote the benefits of millets for farmers, consumers and the climate. The organization of Global Millets i.e. Shri Anna Sammelan in India is an important program in this context.
Prime Minister Modi will address the gathering
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also address the gathering on the occasion. This 2 days long global conference will focus on the promotion and awareness of Nutracereals among producers, consumers and other stakeholders, value chain development of Nutracereals, health and nutritional aspects of Nutracereals, market linkages, research and development etc. Sessions will be held on all important issues related to Agriculture ministers from several countries, international scientists, nutritionists, health experts, start-up industry stalwarts and other stakeholders will participate in the conclave.
