INDvsWI India have slipped to the second spot in the latest World Test Championship (WTC) table after rain washed out the second match against the West Indies. India thus won the two-match series 1-0 but rain dashed their clean sweep hopes of collecting some crucial points for the third round of the WTC.
The Indian team, who reached the finals in the first two cycles of the WTC, started the new cycle on a bright note by winning the first Test match played in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs. Chasing a difficult target of 365 runs, West Indies were 76 for two on the fourth day of the match in the second Test. India needed eight wickets on the last day of the match on Monday but the entire day’s play was abandoned due to rain.
The draw affected India’s win-loss percentage, which dropped from 100 to 66.67. Pakistan are on top with a 100 per cent win-loss record after their four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Galle last week.
Reigning WTC champions Australia (54.17) and England (29.17), playing the Ashes series, are third and fourth respectively. The draw against India has benefited the West Indies as their win-loss percentage has improved to 16.67 and moved up to fifth position. Sri Lanka are ninth with one loss. New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh are yet to play a match in the new 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle that began last month.
Both Pakistan and India were in first place after the 1st Test 4-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. But rain could bring the two Asian rivals back together. Till the latest information comes, rain has disrupted the second day of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. If this Test is drawn, then both the countries will once again be joint No. 1 rank.
