The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday confirmed that 18-year-old batsman Ayesha Naseem is retiring from all forms of competitive cricket due to “personal reasons”. The PCB also appointed Nida Dar as the new captain. She will be taking charge as full-time captain for the first time.
There were reports on Sunday that the flamboyant batsman Naseem has decided to retire from cricket for religious reasons but it took the PCB 48 hours to confirm it.
Although he has cited personal reasons as the reason for retirement, it is being speculated that he took this decision for religious reasons. Due to this, she has not been selected in the Pakistan women’s cricket team for the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October.
“We wish Ayesha Naseem all the best for her future,” Tania Malik, Pakistan’s head of women’s cricket, said in a statement. The PCB respects his decision to retire due to personal reasons.
Ayesha has featured in four One Day Internationals and 30 T20 Internationals for Pakistan. She was part of the team in the 2020 and 2023 T20 World Cups.(Language)
Pakistan’s squad for the Asian Games is as follows: Nida Dar (Captain), Alia Riaz, Anoosha Nasir, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, Naziha Alvi, Nashra Sandhu, Natalia Parvez, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Shawal Zulfiqar, Sidra Amin, Syeda Arub Shah and Umm-e-Hani.
