The Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who won the Korea Open 2023 title two days ago, on Tuesday achieved a career-best second position in the world rankings.
Satwik-Chirag finished second behind the Chinese pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. The Indian youngsters had defeated this Chinese pair in the semi-finals of the Korea Open.
Having won the Korea Open Super 500, Swiss Open Super 300 and Indonesia Open Super 1000 titles this season, Satwik-Chirag are now ranked second in the world rankings with 87,211 points.
Satwik-Chirag won 17-21, 21-13, 21-14 in the final of Korea Open against world top pair of Fajar Alfiyan and Mohammad Riyan Ardiyanto after losing the first set. The pair has not lost a single final in the current season of the BWF World Tour.
Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, who made an early exit from the Korea Open, remained static at 17th in the women’s singles list. London Olympics 2012 bronze medalist Saina Nehwal has dropped one place to be ranked 37th. HS Prannoy (10th) continues to be India’s top shuttler in the men’s singles list. Canada Open winner Lakshya Sen slipped a place to be 13th after missing out on the Korea Open, while out-of-form Kidambi Srikanth remained static at 20th.(agency)
