Left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer and fast bowler Oshane Thomas have been included in the 15-man squad by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the three-match ODI series against India starting on Thursday.

Hetmyer played the last ODI for the Windies in July 2021 against Australia. Oshane Thomas has been out of the team since playing an ODI against Ireland in January 2020. It is noteworthy that the newly appointed limited overs coach of the West Indies had said in May that he wanted Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Evin Lewis to return to the national team.

Sammy had said, “I have spoken to both Hetty (Shimron Hetmyer) and Evin Lewis. I would like to tell you that their response has been positive and I have also reached out to people like Andre Russell. I have also contacted Sunil Narine and all these people to know what their views are. Because they still participate in our domestic competitions.”

Shai Hope remains the captain of the Caribbean team, while Rovman Powell is the vice-captain. CWI reported that fast bowler Jayden Seales and leg-spinner Yannick Kariya have joined the team after completing their post-surgery rehabilitation. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Moti has been included in the squad after making a full recovery from injury.

Keemo Paul was unavailable for selection due to injury. Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder were also unavailable for selection, although the CWI did not give any reason for their unavailability. The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados will host the first two matches of the three-match series on Thursday and Saturday. The teams will then travel to Trinidad on Tuesday for the third ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. All the three matches will start at 7 pm Indian time.
